Both firefox and safari stop responding after just a few minutes

Customer Question

Both firefox and safari stop responding after just a few minutes of use, showing the spinning color wheel. This happens with any network I connect to. Is this fixable?

What version of Mac OS X are you using? You can find this out by going to the apple menu and click on "About this mac." Also, when either browser locks up are you on a particular website, or does it happen on any website?

It's version 10.4.11, and it happens independent of the websites.. opening an email, clicking on 'inbox' in gmail, banking website, etc.

  1. It sounds like it could be a plug-in that both browsers are using, such as Adobe Flash Player. Try doing the following:
  2. From the Go menu goto Home
  3. Then Library
  4. Then Caches
  5. Delete everything in the Caches folder.

  1. Open Safari
  2. Goto the Safari menu
  3. Click Reset safari and OK to preceed.

Let me know if this solves your problem.
