my printer doesn't print. it shoots the paper thru normally, but nothing is on it. I put in a new black cartridge, the color one is barely used, I've checked the connections. what next?

It sounds to me like ink issues. Has it been a long time since you last printed? Ink can dry in the jets of the printhead. Cleaning the jets is the normal solution. Every time you turn the printer on the jets clean and there is normally a button sequence your can press on the printer to clean it and many printer have a cleaning utility. It might take a few cleaning cycles before it's clear but if it's the jets you'll see improvements quickly.
