OK. It sounds like the computer is actually running. Press and hold the power button until you hear the laptop shut down. It should take about 5 seconds.

After the laptop has shut down turn it over and press the power indicator on the battery under the laptop and let me know how many lights turn on.

Hello,

I think there may be a problem with the SMC chip. It can cause strange problems like this, because it controls the Power Management.

To reset it, pull out the battery and unplug the laptop.

Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Reinsert the battery and plug the laptop back in.

Turn it back on.

I'm glad it came back on. I was worried we might get down to a logic board problem. That wouldn't have been good.

Thanks for using JustAnswer.com. Come back if you have any more problems.

Actually, could you get me laptop information from the

Apple Menu>About this Macintosh>More Info>Hardware.

There are two models of MacBooks that look identical, but the SMC is reset in different ways. I'd like to make sure I gave you the correct instructions.

Thanks
