Customer Question

My iMac 24 2.16 with 2 GB RAM running Leopard is generally slow, especially internet. Another computer on the same network runs much faster. I turned off Time Machine backup and have turned off as many programs as I can. It hasn't helped. Any suggestions.

Have you noticed the slowness in any other programs other than Safari or FireFox?

Let me know,
Brandon
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes. Everything has been slow. Since I turned off Time Machine things are definitely better, but still not what they used to be.
Expert:  Brandon M. replied 5 years ago.
Let's try clearing out your cache folders. There are two of them. First, open up your hard drive and open Library. Locate the Caches folder and drag it to the trash can (don't empty the trash yet). Second folder can be found in your home folder, under Library. Drag this Caches folder to the trash as well. After you remove these two Caches folders, please restart your iMac. After you restart, empty your trash.

Helps a little. I will "Accept" but if you can help more I would appreciate it.
Expert:  Brandon M. replied 5 years ago.
Thanks for the accept. I'd be glad to assist you further. There are a few more things we can try. First, let's make sure all your permissions are correct. You can run a utility that will do this for you. Open your hard drive and go to Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility. On the left side, choose your hard drive. On the right, under the First Aid tab, choose Repair Disk Permissions (don't have to verify first). After this is complete, restart your mac.

There is another utility we can try but you will need to have a Mac OS X CD/DVD handy. Please follow the instructions above and let me know if you have a the CD/DVD to continue.

So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill Bill M. Schenectady, New York
