15 mac powerbook

Customer Question

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 and the display starts flickering and within seconds will eventually go dark. If I toggle the brightness (f1 & f2) the display will 'kick' back in, but I can only toggle up maybe 2 or 3 levels before it'll go dark again. At the moment, I have it on level 2 before it'll go dark.

I'll definitely ship it to you guys for repair, but in your experience, what does that sound like, is it the display? the backlight? or the inverter?

Hi,

What is probably happening is that some component on the inverter board is failing as it gets warm and your changing the setting is resetting it for a minute or two till it heats up again.

You can find an inverter from somewhere like http://www.welovemacs.com/ or ebay and change it yourself if you no longer have applecare, Here are the instructions to do so http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G4-Ti-DVI/Inverter/33/9

Let us know if you need more info.

Thanks
