Have you ever been able to connect a bluetooth device of any kind to this computer using this dongle (mouse, keyboard, phone)?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Reply to Aggie Mac Master's Post: I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected to the dongle as well ad my iphone. All three of these items paired without any problems
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Alright, I found the problem.

The problem is in Mac OS X 10.4, it doesn't support A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile).

In the Jabra BT620s User Manual, it says the device it connects to must support Bluetooth 1.1 or 1.2 and that the Advanced Audio
Distribution Profile (A2DP) is active, or it will not work.

http://www.jabra.com/sites/Jabra/GNImages/Products/WirelessHeadset/BT620s/Documents/BT620s_UM_NA_EN_454.pdf

You are set on the Bluetooth front, because your D-Link 120 dongle is Bluetooth 2.0.

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34&sec=0

So what you need to do is add the A2DP to your computer, and there are solutions for Tiger:

The first solution is Softick Audio Gateway for Mac OS X.

Softick Audio Gateway captures digital audio from Mac OS X CoreAudio subsystem and redirects it to any compatible Bluetooth A2DP device such as Bluetooth headsets, headphones or speakers.

It can be downloaded here:
http://www.softick.com/macosx/audio-gateway/index.php?page=1&new_lang=en

The other thing you could do is upgrade to Leopard. Leopard provides native A2DP support.

I hope I was able to help you today, and if I can help with anything else, do not hesitate to ask.

If this doesn't work for you let me know, and I will find you another solution.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I have just ordered the softstick Audio Gateway software. I have tried so many things as soon as I get the confirmation and can download this program and see that it works I will definately click the accept. I have spent like 12 hours on the phone with the headset manufacturer tech people and also Apple support and got no where except look at this info and it basically comes back to it won't work. So I will reply as soon as I can get this program from Softstick. They said it could take up to 2 hours. Hope that is ok.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Just download the beta that is above to try it out before paying for it:

http://www.softick.com/download_script.php?prog_version_id=89&site_type=1

See if it works for you.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
I was hoping to find you a free solution, it just escaped me to recommend downloading beta. I thought you would see that at the top.

Here is another free solution, with a video explanation of installation:

http://blog.david.connolly.name/2007/06/stereo-bluetooth-profile-a2dp-on-mac-os.html

I will keep searching to find you the best solution!
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I downloaded the Softstick program and when I try to open it I get this error (No A2DP audio driver is found Please re install Softstick Audio Gateway) The program shows up in my applications file
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Try the second solution at:

http://blog.david.connolly.name/2007/06/stereo-bluetooth-profile-a2dp-on-mac-os.html

The Softstick program might not be Universal, so it might not work on PPC machines. This second solution is Universal so it should work for you.

Let me know if it does, or doesn't work. There is one other way to get it to work but it is very involved, so I want to exhaust these two easier methods first.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I read that David Connoly thing yesterday and downloaded the jack program but got so confused and frustrated i uninstalled it. I could not get it to work. Might be that I'm not 100% computer litterate.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
I will walk you through it, alright?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok I'll download it again but it would be easier to talk 2 someone on the phone while doing this.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
And I wish they would let us do that, but we cannot per company policies. But this shouldn't be too bad, just a few back and forth messages.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
OK I have to restart my computer for this program to install I wrote down this link so i can get back to it once my computer starts again. BRB
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
I'm installing it right along with you, I just rebooted.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Open Applications>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup

Go to the Audio Menu and click "Open Aggregate Device Editor"
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
In the Aggregate Devices box, click the +

It will then create a new device , and under the use column, check "Built-in Output" and "Built-in Input" and have the Clock column selected as the "Built-in Output"

Click Done

Stay tuned for more.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Open Applications>Jack>JackPilot

In the JackPilot menu, select "Preferences"

For Interface: Select Aggregate Device (The one we just created)

Click Save

In the JackPilot Box that is open, click "Start"
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Now this is the tricky part:

First while I am figuring out the installation of it download:

http://www.coolatoola.com/a2dpcast-0.2.zip

I will be back with how to install it.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Ok, so you are still in the Audio MIDI Setup?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I still havent clicked done because i dont see what u said about built in output and built in input
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
In the section called Structure, under Audio Device, what do you see?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Built in audio I checked it but I dont see Built in Output anywhere
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
In the main Audio MIDI Setup you should see Default Input and Default Output. Are those there?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I cant see them because the drop down box is there in the way but in that box i just saw from left to right clock --- use--- audio devise--- in --- out--- resample I clicked the box under use and that line reads clock is checked now use is checked built-in audio 2--- 2 and theres a box under resample unchecked
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
leave the resample ones unchecked and check the boxes in the use column. If there is a problem, they can be changed later.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok done that
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
OK I went back and opened jack program and followed the instructions u said jackpilot is running the cpu load now it just really slow I downloaded that program u told me to
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Here is a step by step of the second part of the installation, it is in chinese, but it has very good pictures and shows the places to download the necessary files:

http://henstudio.com/2007/10/27/a2dp_on_osx_tiger/

Just put the downloads where it shows, and type what they did in the Terminal and you will be all set up!
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok i see the A2DP file and ive opened the utilities folder to the terminal folder but thats where i stopped because im not sure what needs to be done
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Ok I am stuck on step 3. I have downloaded the 2 files I was asked to download and i have the utilities folder open and see the pictures like in the display but I dont wanna mess up anything with a mistake so what do I do now??
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Make sure that those files are in the main Macintosh HD directory, also called the root directory.

See how they have it in the main part of "Macintosh HD"?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I drug the 2 files to the hard drive so that it looks like in the picture and now I have these 2 files there (file one) a2dpcast-0.2 and (file two) a2dpcast-0.3

make sure that in the pedrocancel directory, there is a folder named a2dp and within that folder there is the a2dpcastAudioDevice.tgz file.

Then try the command again
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok when I click on my hard drive i have these two files in it:

a2dpcast-0.2

a2dpcast-0.3

did I make a mistake with that? they were on my desktop and I drug them to my hard drive so it would look like the picture but I dont see a plain folder that says a2dp anywhere both files I downloaded have numbers behind them
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I don't see this file at all

a2dpcastAudioDevice.tgz file.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
for folder:
(a2dpcast-0.2)
when I click it these 3 files are in it:
a2dp
a2dpcast
readme

folder 2:
(a2dpcast-0.3)
the folders in that one are:
a2dp
a2dpcast
audioreflectordriver

thats what those folders say
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
give me a sec to see what is going on with that.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok Im really nervous that Im screwing my computer up and wont know what to do to get back to what I had before starting this.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Here it is:

http://www.coolatoola.com/a2dpcastAudioDevice.tgz

And you need this one too:

http://www.coolatoola.com/a2dpcast-0.3.zip

This one you need to decompress

Looks like we skipped step 1.

Take these files and put them into the pedrocancel directory like you see in the picture for step 1.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Don't worry, you have not yet done anything to your computer, the errors mean nothing happened.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
by pedrocancel directory you meen my hard drive rite??
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
i mean the Macintosh HD>Users>pedrocancel

the one that we were putting things in earlier
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
when I download stuff everything goes to my desktop that is why I'm asking because for me to get them to my hard drive I have to drag them to the hard drive. I downloaded the files and the one zip file keeps putting a file called system on my desktop so from the two links you told me to download I have these two new files:
a2dpcast-0.3
and
a2dpxastaudiodevice.tar (which is a zip file and when I open that zip file i get a file called)
system
SO Now I have system, system 2, system 3 and system 4 on my desk top because I kept trying to open that zip file
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
should I delete those folders and download them again??
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I am very sorry I told you I'm not really that good with computers. I keep messing things up.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
transfer the a2dpcastAudioDevice.tgz (when you downloaded it it was .tgz.z, rename it to .tgz) do not unzip it.

also transfer the a2dpcast-0.3 folder

Transfer both to the a2dp folder in pedrocancel
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
OK I went back and deleted all of those files and re-downloaded the two links. one is called:
a2dpcast-0.3
the second one is a zip file which I didnt unzip and its called
a2dpcastAudioDevice.tar
AGAIN I did not unzip it but I did drag them to the file that has my name that looks like a house I hope that it right. (Please be right)
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
yes but they need to be within a folder in that house looking file named a2dp
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok I dont have a file at all on my computer with just ( a2dp ) did I need to download another file?
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
just make it, right click and select new folder. Name it a2dp
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
if you don't have a mouse with a right click, hold down the control key and click.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Ok I went back to the first file you asked me to download and re-downloaded it and i have 3 files now onw named:

(a2dpcast-0.2) that file has a2dp, a2dpcast and readme

(a2dpcast-0.3) that file has a2dp, a2dpcast and audioreflectordriver

(a2dpcastaudiodriver.tar) that folder is the zip file

which do you want me to rename??
If you want to stop cause Im really stupid about this stuff I understand Im sorry.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
No, we have come this far, lets get it done.

just change the .tar to .tgz

then move

(a2dpcast-0.3)

&

(a2dpcastaudiodriver.tgz)

to that file we created (a2dp) in your home directory (pedrocancel)
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok I created a folder and named it a2dp in my home folder house like you said and I changed the tar zip file to tgz
I got a message asking if I really wanted to change the tar to tgz and I clicked yes
Hope I did it right
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Perfect!
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Did you move the folder and the .tgz file into the folder you created?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
yes I put those folders inside the one I created named a2dp
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Now go back to the terminal and reenter:

sudo tar xfzp /Users/pedrocancel/a2dp/a2dpcastAudioDevice.tgz --same-owner

So, do the headphones work?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I opened iTunes and the sound is not coming from the headset. do I need to pair the headset? or switch so that they are the ones the sound is coming from?
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Did you restart your computer?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
No you didn't tell me to I'll close all of the programs now and restart the computer. Give me about a couple of minutes. BRB
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
OK As soon as I restarted my computer This error poped up:

SYSTEM EXTENSION CANNOT BE USED.
The system xtension "/System/Library/Extension/AudioReflectorDriver.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contacting the vendor for an update.

I had to click ok so that I could continue to load my desktop. No sound came out of the headset.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
so it looks like we have to install that one the way they wanted, lets just do that part. It should work if we can get that done.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok how do we do that??
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Type this in terminal

sudo tar xfzp /Users/pedrocancel/a2dp/a2dpcastAudioDevice.tar
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I'm sorry I don't remember how to get to the terminal file

and a2dpcastAudioDevice.tar is in the folder we created?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
remember thats a zip file and we unzipped it and I put the one file in my hard drive file?? Yes it is in the a2dp file but the one file I had to validate. I think that is the file it is talking about because this is the same error I got when I validated it.
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
I don't think we will be able to get this to work.

To make sure you don't get that error at start up, delete
AudioReflectorDriver.kext from /System/Library/Extensions

I'm sorry I couldn't get this to work for you. I recommend that you upgrade to Leopard, it is what I use and it does support a2dp.

Thanks for this adventure tonight!
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
OK How do I delete this file so I don't get this error?
Expert:  Aggie Mac Master replied 6 years ago.
Go to XXXXX>System>Library>Extensions

and just drag AudioReflectorDriver.kext to the trash

and restart your computer.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Thanks I kinda had my hopes high when we got this far.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Took some time to find that file in error and remove it but 2 hrs later finally got my computer to start up without the error. Thanks for the long hours or work. I did things with this computer I would have never tried alone. We were able to get this to work but I appriciate your trying. The money is being sent in good faith because of all of your help. So wish I could have gottten it to work. I just ordered the New Mac OS 10.5 Hope to never have to do this again. But If I did it would have to be with someone as patient and caring as you!
Thanks

One last question this whole thing has personal info about my computer and my name and all will this all be displayed for everyone to see? Anyway to get it taken off? Thanks again.

So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill Bill M. Schenectady, New York
