I loaded Lime wire and in the process lost Itunes, Safari and Mac Help... Any suggestions on how to correct this problem ?

Is Safari and iTunes still on your computer?

Go to the Finder and open the Applications folder. Are Safari and iTunes still there?

In fact when I log on Itunes appears in my Dock bounces a few times then explodes like a cloud.
Safari will bounce in my dock and nothing happens.
Quicktimes is fine.Iphoto is fine.

First thing to try is "Repair Permissions".

Open "Disk Utility" (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility).

Click on your hard drive on the left and then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.

When you try to start iTunes, is there anything added to the console.

Open the Console application (/Applications/Utilities/Console).

Then use the File menu to open both the Console log and System log. Then clear both with the menu "View -> Clear Display".

Then try to start iTunes. Any messages added to the logs?

Looks like maybe LimeWire deleted or changed one of the System libraries (it should not do that, but...)


I would try running System Update from the Apple menu to see if that downloads a new iTunes that will fix it.

Software update crashes as well can't open it.

Umm you are very helpful even though my system is not working should I start a new thread so you can get paid? And then continue trying to fix it?

Which version of OS X are you running? 10.3, 10.4, 10.5?

I'm going to have try running the combo update again. It will often fix these kinds of problems.

Looks like you are in a bit of a catch 22. Can't fix it cause you can't run the fixer without it.

Did you have any plans to upgrade to 10.5? If so, now might be a good time.

All I can suggest now is to reinstall or upgrade to 10.5 (you have to buy it). Or maybe contact Apple.
