2001 rx 300 started making a whirring noise at 150,000

Customer Question

2001 rx 300 started making a whirring noise at 150,000 miles. had the trans fluid and oil changed but noise persists. It is at low speeds only. Sounds like the whir that a power steering problem makes but doesn't seem related to the steering.
JA: When was the last time your transmission fluid was checked? Changed?
Customer: did it yesterday but probably 50,000 since the last change
JA: Are you fixing your RX 300 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I sometimes do things myself but this is probably beyond my ability. The CEL and VCS lights came on yesterday and I disconnected the battery overnight and they were ok in the morning.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no
