Customer Question

The electrically controlled trunk of my Lexus won't work - I think someone may have forced it by hand

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

Even if it was closed by hand that shouldn't have caused any damage or prevent the liftgate from opening electronically again, unless possibly it was forced while something foreign was blocking it or something of that nature.

What happens when you attempt to open it electronically now? Do you hear any noise, does te latch pop off, etc?

Do you believe that someone forced the liftgate closed by hand with something foreign in the way, or was it simply closed manually?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Closed manually. When I try and close it automatically I hear two beeps.

It's stuck open now?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. I closed it manually, with some difficulty
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 1 year ago.

The original problem then was it was open and didn't close electrically, correct?

Have you tried a battery disconnect?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. How do I do that?

Is it a hybrid?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No

The battery is just forward of the air filter box in the engine compartment. You would disconnect the negative cable for a few seconds and then reconnect it.

Ok; thank you. I'll try that tomorrow
