I have a 04 GX 470. Been a great suv with no problems until recently it randemly wont start. When key is turned on, dash, air, radio all powers up but starter wont crank. Does not make any noise, just silence. It has also one time died while driving 70 miles an hour. When I pulled over it started and it didn't happen again until we got to destination. turned it off and wouldn't start. After setting for several minutes, it started. Dealership has replaced the ignition switch including the "electrical plug" at the rear of switch, but problem still persists. Car has 160,000 miles. thank you for your suggestions.

Hello and thank you for using just answer! Any aftermarket items on the truck?
Not to my knowledge. When I first got the vehicle at 33,000 miles I switched the wheels from Lexus stock 17" to aftermarket 18" rims. The "low tire" symbol on dash has always been lit since then. I may need to add I normally don't take car to the dealership for any repair but it has really never needed any repair. I keep oil changed regularly with Mobil 1. I did have the timing belt and brakes replaced at a local repair shop around 100,000 miles. Not sure if they could have used "aftermarket" items
I might also add since I use the local lube shop to change the oil, the "maintenance required" light also stays lit on the dash.
Has a scan tool been connected to check for immobilizer or crank sensor codes? Did this issue appear right after that 100,000 mile service?
I would have to ask the Lexus dealership if they used the scan tool and no sir this problem has just started at approx 159,300 miles. Lexus had it for several days and chose to replace the outer cylinder of the starter switch and after that didn't help they replaced some electrical plug that attaches to the back of the starter cylinder. It seemed to have been fixed as i drove it locally for a few days, but we drove it this weekend, approx 130 miles on interstate, once at destination and turned off, it would not start again. Waited 3 - 5 minutes by turning switch accasionally and it finally cranks. Sometimes if u hold the key down in full start (not letting it release back, after about 2 - 3 seconds it will crank and start.
I would really like to know if any codes are stored in the system. From what you describehere this sounds like the starter solenoid is sticking and failing but a few tests would need to be run to determine that one.
would the starter solenoid failing cause to shut off driving at 70 mph? I will attempt to ask your scan question to the dealership but that may take a day or 2 to get a reply. Should I ask if any codes are stored in the system? or if a scan tool was connected to determine if any codes are stored in the system? Kinda wish now I would have stayed away from the lexus dealership and just took to my local service garage. they are easier to talk to. Can the starter solenoid be easily checked?
The starter is located under the intake, a real pin to access. I really want to know about codes though. My thought here is that this may b a 2 part issue. 1 - starter 2- crank signal
OK, I will attempt to ask the codes question. Hang with me, feel certain won't get an answer today
That's fine, just reply whenever, thanks
