Good afternoon. Thank you for requesting me. in New York, the law of abandoned property requires that a notice be sent. It does not specify the type of notice, email, text, etc., but the best proof for a court, should it ever be required would be a letter, with a return receipt and certified. Its better practice to mail with the certified, so you have the physical proof of mailing and acceptance. Email an texts are still not viewed by NY Courts as reliable proof of service.
