Customer Question

My other has a reverse mortgage and the money is almost gone. Is he has to have someone with 24 /7. I have been that person for the last 3 years. Cannot get paid from medicare because she does not qualify. I am wondering will she qualify for a nursing home medicaid if the house is put up for sale?

Hi and welcome to JA. Ray here to help you.

The house here is exempt as a resource from medicaid. If you sell it the parent has to spend down the proceeds and is then eligible for medicaid. You have to decide if you want to sell here knowing anything they get will be spent down for private pay until under the $k resource limits.

The money will go to the reverse mortgage company

In that situation you should be fine, no change in her resources.

Reference to eligibility for you.

They were smart to cash out the equity here and make use of it, medicaid would have got it otherwise.

I appreciate the chance to help you , good luck here with all. Thanks again.
