Is it illegal dr to refill a prescription if money is owed

Customer Question

Is it illegal for a dr to refill a prescription if money is owed to them? I owe 472 dollars and they are insisting that the balance is paid in full before i can get a refill.

Hi - my name is ***** ***** I'll be glad to assist.

Yes, a doctor has the right to discontinue treating you/writing prescriptions if money is owed to him.......or the doctor could continue to treat you with the balance owed. It's really just up to the doctor.

So, it's not illegal for a doctor to refill a prescription if money is owed to him.......but it is up to the doctor as to whether he/she agrees to continue treating the patient IF money is owed.
