I've been married years. I bought my house before I knew her

Customer Question

I've been married for 2 years. I bought my house before I knew her but put her name on the mortgage shortly after we got married in good faith. Things have hit rock bottom and she is demanding half of the value of the house if we divorce. What is she legally entitled to?

Is she on the title or just the mortgage?

Are you still online? Is she on the title or just the mortgage?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not sure. What's the difference if she's on the title or just the mortgage?
Expert:  Loren replied 1 year ago.

If she is on the mortgage then she owes money, along with you.

If she is on title then she has an ownership interest in the property apart from any marital or community property interest.

She does not have to be in title to share the mortgage.
