Hello and thank you for contacting Just Answer. I am an expert here and I look forward to assisting you today. If at any point any of my answers aren’t clear please don’t hesitate to ask for clarification.
Can you provide a few more facts to put this into context?
someone is texting me with my family details and says we had sex together before. Which is possible.....They are threatening to expose these details by texting me.
What are they asking you to do?
pay them 5000
meet them to pay them
You have a couple of choices. Your best option is to go and hire a local lawyer and have them coordinate efforts between the civil court and the law enforcement authorities.
that will expose it anyway though?
they are saying NOW
I just don't know who THEY are
Contact the police directly.
This is the kind of thing that never ends.
If you meet them and pay them then they'll do the same thing in a week or month.
I am afraid of that
Go to the local police station and ask to speak to a detective.
They may be able to set up a trap right now.
It may even be an absolute scam, someone you have never met and they chose your number at random or scouted you out.
but they seem to know some details
they must know me
They may have dome some background on you or it may even be someone you know but have never fooled around with.
they mentioned my wifes name SAID they know my home number and WHERE I live
Regardless, I have never ever seen anyone pay and then not regret it later.
I am afraid I may have tho
this is terrible
I agree with that
You may have, it certainly could have happened but it is still illegal.
pay pay and keep paying
It is actually a federal crime as well as a state crime.
I have even seen some people have to perform illegal acts because they get in so deep.
You really only have two options, pay or go to the police but the problem is that at some point you are going to have to go to the police anyway (likely) so you may as well save yourself the money now and go to them.
ok well Thank You!
You're very welcome! Please come back and let me know how it goes.
