At this point, you need to go back to the police, provide them with the case number and share with them the information which you have. If you have a witness, go with them to the police station and let them give a statement as to who they know stole the vehicle, along with yourself, regarding the key and where it was found. The police need evidence. Evidence is not only physical but in the form of testimony
. As such, if you know someone who knows who did this, they need to tell the police and allow them to investigate. In the event that the police to not make an arrest, you next step and remedy would be to file a civil lawsuit against the person, for the theft of the car and the damages suffered. You could try and recover monetarily, if the State will not prosecute and recover for you, acting on your behalf, as the victim.
