Employment in North Carolina is at will. This means that unless you have a written contract
to the contrary, you have to perform whatever jobs and duties the employer requires of you and failure to do so can result in termination for failure or refusal to perform and that is considered good cause to seek to deny unemployment benefits.
If you refuse to do the new job they want you to perform, I am afraid that if the employer terminates you for this reason your unemployment benefits would be denied.
