To obtain a judgment against you, the lender must take you to court. A short sale does not do that, and a judgment is not entered against you. A foreclosure may, depending, end up in a judgment against you if the property is located in a 'recourse' state where the lender can pursue a judgment, and the lender actually ends up pursuing this judgment against you.
