If a person expresses a suicide ideation in our presence, what should be our course of action? In the state of Florida, if the person is conducting her/himself in such a fashion, typically the police are summoned, the individual is Baker Acted and taken to a holding facility while relatives are notified. The issue with this action is that Baker actions are considered arrests and create an arrest record. We want to do what is best for the person, but within the appropriate legal parameters.
