My question is related to renting a room in Singapore.

I've been renting this room for 2 years now.
(Contract was determined for 1 year. - fulfilled)

Rental fee is due on every 1st of the month.

I paid for the month of July on the 1st of July.
I gave my 1 month notice on 20th July.
I move out on 20th August.

Do I need to pay for the period : 21 - 31 Aug?

It only says that I need to give 1 month notice.


It is written in English and refers to Singapore law.

Good. Then you do not owe for the remainder of the month. The rent should be prorated to the day you are moving out.

So for example, if you are paying $3,100 per month, and you are moving out on the 21st of the month, you would only pay 21 days of rent. In this example you would only owe $2,100.

On 20 July 2012 I provided you with written notice of my intent to vacate the premises and terminate the lease on 20 August 2012, as required pursuant to the written lease agreement. Accordingly, the rent due under the lease is the prorated amount of the monthly rent for 1 August through 20 August, which is _______.
