The client i built the bar for took it upon him self to start taking off the counter top. Does that relieve me of response ability for the counter top? How do I deal with it now? I sent an email to him telling him I would repair the finish?

Hello and thank you for the question. I am sorry to read of this dilemma. Legally, you are only liable for issues in connection with the work you performed. if client mishandles or damages the item through not fault of your work, but by virtue of his tampering with it, that amounts to an intervening event and absolves you of any liability to repair. If you e-mailed him about repairing the finish, that portion does not need to be done as the e-mail creates a binding offer. If for example, there is a cost to repair the top because of his removal, or any work associated with that removal, you may negotiate a new fee for that work.
