Resolved Question:

I am a full-time teacher in the state of North Carolina. I would like to start an online retail store to supplement my income, and eventually open a storefront in Maine. What is the best type of business license for me to obtain. I plan on the online business to make between 0 & $1000 per month. I will be the only employee and would like to obtain a EIN number.

You just need to get a local business license in the city/county where you reside. There is no need to go to the trouble of forming an LLC or corporation at this point.

If you want to get an FEIN (it isn't absolutely necessary to do so), you can get one online in a few minutes fee from the IRS website. That can be done here
