I have been denied the purchase of a firearm because of an arrest 35 years ago that the charges of we're dropped. What can I do?

If they were dismissed then there should not be any issues with getting this resolved. You would need to appeal the denial to the FBI. In your appeal, you would need to include certified copies of the court minutes demonstrating that the charges were dismissed.
