Hello,

Thank you for using JA. There is not a statute of limitations on repossessions per se, but rather on the underlying debt that is secured by a vehicle. The SOL on written contracts for purchases is 5 years. So if the creditor hasn't filed suit against the debtor and gotten a judgment within 5 years of default, they are then barred from doing so and can't collect on the debt.
