Yes, fully automatic weapons are legal to own as long as the person has a federal permit to possess the weapon. The permit costs $200 in addition to the cost of the weapon and the applicant has to have a local law enforcement official sign off on the application to "vouch" for the person..Fully automatic weapons as well as sound suppressors (silencers) can be purchased from a gun dealer who holds a Class III license..
