I bought a used car in April, 2012. From a dealer in Florida. What slipped my mind when purchasing the vehicle was that I am exempt from state side sales tax, as I live in the United States Virgin Islands. The vehicle was $18,600. Is it to late to get that tax back from the dealer?

Hello and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you.Yes, I'm sure it is too late to get the sales tax from the dealer because the dealer would have already paid the tax authority. If you can get a refund, I think you need to go directly to the tax authority and explain the situation to see if there is a way to obtain a refund. You can, of course, ask the dealer if it can do anything, but I suspect this has long been out of the dealer's hands. If you would like any additional information or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask! Also, I strive to be as helpful as possible so that you are satisfied and will give me positive feedback. Accordingly, please remember to only rate my answer when you are 100% satisfied.
