My son was recently suspended for fighting. The administrators cited "contributing factors" as a reason, ie... both boys had some words between them two days prior but no contact. My son was hit twice in the head before he responded with one blow. Under this policy he has no right to self defense. I am in SC what laws or statutes shouls I look at? Thank you.

Unfortunately, there is zero tolerance for fighting in schools. As far as criminal charges, your son would have a claim of self defense, but not in schools. School rules are something that are left to the discretion of the school boards who set the rules. The SC statutes on self defense just would not apply to fighting school rules on violence and the courts hold that schools are free to enforce these zero tolerance rules on violence or even over the counter drugs and it is not a violation of any rights I am afraid.
