It appears that you have already taken your only legal recourse, which is to file a claim against the estate. You would be an unsecured creditor, I assume, and would only get paid if there were sufficient assets in the estate. However, if there is equity in what you were building for him, then the estate would be entitled to that equity. In other words, the estate is entitled to complete the contract.
