i lend money to a friend and now she doesnt want to pay me back. she moved and changed her phone number. i have proof that i lend her money because she tried paying me back with checks but she closed the accounts linked to the checks so i could not get my money back. can the court find this lady if i open a case against her?

i lend her more than 2000 dollars.

Zachary D. Norris :

Hi,

Zachary D. Norris :

How long ago did you lend the money?

Customer:

like around 6 months ago

Zachary D. Norris :

OK. You definitely still have a case and you can take your friend to small claims court to recover.

Zachary D. Norris :

However,

Zachary D. Norris :

it seems the question you are asking is whether the court can find the person who owes you money.

Zachary D. Norris :

Is that correct?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

i dont know where she lives anymore

Zachary D. Norris :

Unfortunately, the court does not locate anyone for you.

Customer:

ok is there anything i can do

Zachary D. Norris :

hold one second please

Customer:

ok thanks

Zachary D. Norris :

Sorry for the delay

Customer:

its ok

Zachary D. Norris :

OK, there are several ways to go about finding a person

Zachary D. Norris :

What information do you have regarding the person?

Zachary D. Norris :

Do you have any ID information?

Zachary D. Norris :

such as a drivers' license, birth date, etc?

Customer:

no id just the signed checks

Zachary D. Norris :

Do you know the persons date of birth?

Customer:

yes

Zachary D. Norris :

OK.

Zachary D. Norris :

That's something to work with.

Zachary D. Norris :

There are several websites that allow you to locate people.

Zachary D. Norris :

The best one that I use when I'm looking for people is www.publicdata.com

Customer:

ok thanks i will try that

Zachary D. Norris :

With the limited information you have, you can find information such as where they have registered their address for the department of transportion, etc.

Customer:

thank you for your time

Zachary D. Norris :

No worries.

Customer:

ok thanks

If you are unable to locate the person on publicdata, the best thing you can do is to hire a private detective. PIs have access to databases which allow them to perform "skip traces" which access information from creditors and banks that have location information. They have a special license from the state which allows them to access to this information.

Please feel free to ask me for further information.
