I work in a Publix liquor store. Yesterday I was caught in an AB & T sting operation, with a minor using an alterred ID. I checked the ID and did not spot that a 9 had been made into a 8, and entered the 8 into the register date check. My record is totally clean and the agent suggested it might get settled before my court date.My question, what penalties might I get, and could I be barred from selling alchohol i.e. lose my job.
Optional Information: State/Country relating to Question: Florida Already Tried: Only happened last night, I was not arrested but received form ABT 400E-008 telliing me to appear in court in November.
Hello,Selling alcohol to someone underaged in Florida is a 2nd degree Misdemeanor and could conceivably carry a penalty of jail of up to 60 days and a fine of up to $500. In reality, if this is your first charge you will likely only be fined if you are convicted. You will be barred from selling alcohol, but the amount of time is up to the court. Although I can't say -what Publix will do, you may be terminated. If you are, you may have difficulty receiving unemployment benefits since you would be terminated for "cause" or misconduct.
