The mother of our grandchildren wants to give up custodial rights, my son is willing to sign as well. Are there any documents that you can e-mail me so I can fill out and give to the judge to sign? Both my wife and I are drawing unemployment and do not have the resources to pay an attorney to "draw up" paperwork that I hopefuly can do myself. I know this is refered to as a "quick adoption" and I'm willing to do the "leg work" myself. Is there anything you can send me that will cut my cost?
State/Country relating to Question: North Carolina Already Tried: Spoke to an attorney, and they want $1,000 that my wife and I do not have.
Good MorningCustomer Its always heartwarming to hear of grandparents who are willing to step in to provide a grandchild with a stable home. This is not, unfortunately, the kind of thing that is best done by just filling out a form. The good news is that there are free legal services for people like yourselves who are unable to afford a lawyer. This is especially true for child welfare issues such as this.I'd start by calling the Family Law Clinic at NC Central University Law School. There, students, supervised by lawyer/professors can assist. If you are not in that area, they should be able to refer you to other services that will help without charge.Call the clinic at (NNN) NNN-NNNN and ask for the "Family Law Clinic."There's also a website for the whole state that will refer you to the appropriate legal services agency in your area. http://www.lawhelp.org/NC/StateChannelResults.cfm/County/%20/City/%20/demoMode/%3D%201/Language/1/State/NC/TextOnly/N/ZipCode/%20/LoggedIn/0/iSubTopicID/1/iProblemCodeID/1300100/sTopicImage/familyjuvenile.gif/iTopicID/766/ichannelid/122/bAllState/0I wish you all the best in your efforts to give your grandchild a good and stable home!Sincerely, XXXXX XXXXX
