my landlord has been taking measures to shore up the front of a slightly sagging 1920's six-plex. now i learn several workers i dont know will have to enter my front room and tear out the plaster wall next to all of my furniture and electronics. ive recently purchased some expensive items. is it my, my landlords, or the workers responsibility to move, cover, and protect items. also, should i be able to and try to obtain list of foreman and workers names in case of damage or theft.
State/Country relating to Question: Missouri Already Tried: just found out by voicemail on wed. night. demolition scheduled for friday morning.
Thank you very much for your question. If your property gets damaged, you will have a valid claim against both the workers + foreman, and the landlord since the workers will be acting as his agents while on your premises. However, they are not responsible for covering up your items--that is your responsibility. I do suggest you create a tally of all your expensive items, and possibly send a copy to the landlord prior to any work being done. You should be able to get the name of the foreman, and in case something goes wrong, you will be able to request the list of names of all individuals who were present on your premises.Good luck.Sincerely,Dimitry Alexander Kaplun, Esq.
