if an employer interrogates and accuses you of theft and calls the police only to have the police state it is not a police issue and leave and the employer terminates you for something else entirely do you have any recourse?
What state is the employment in?
illinois
The employer has the right to accuse and let you go, even if mistaken. If the conduct was discriminatory or violated an employee handbook, let me know but otherwise you would not have a claim.
I believe that the conduct did violate company handbook allowing me to use my open door communication with my manager because the manager was involved with the termination causing conflict of interest.
You can use that in having an employment lawyer negotiate severance or reinstatement as well as reporting it to the state labor department.
