wanted to know if a humane officer has a recording on a phone comes over to where i am staying and tells the lady that its my voice on the phone . can i sue this lady for false statements.
State/Country relating to Question: Pennsylvania
Hi there:The nuances vary by state, but generally speaking someone may sue for defamation of character where a false statement is made that holds you up to scorn, ridicule, or contempt. In other words, if it "tends so to harm the reputation of another as to lower him in the estimation of the community or to deter third persons from associating or dealing with him.", or injures their general character or causes disgrace. If the lie about it being your voice did these things, there would oridinarly be a suit for defamation.Let me know if more information is needed, and please remember to click "accept". Thank you.
