my son (22) has been charged with felony malicious mischief over $500 and it is his first offence. He has been indighted by the grand jury and we go to court for the first time Monday. What is going to happen in this step? What will happen if he pleads guilty to the charges? He does not want to try and "get out" of anything. He wants to take responsibility for his actions, but we don't feel it would be justifiable for him to go to the penitentiary. What do we do?
Already Tried: Mississippi He was jailed for violation of parole by getting into this trouble. What happened is he and a buddy got drunk and turned headstones over in a graveyard. The only one we are aware of being damaged (broken in two) was one from the 1800's. The church whose graveyard this is has requested that they take it easy on him. The option we would like to pursue instead of time in the pen is military service. We have spoken to a recruiter and he said he would work with him but he would have to be sentenced first. When will the sentencing happen? This is our first experience with the legal system so we are absolutely lost.
Thanks for your question. Here is enters a plea.He can and should plead not guilty here. Then his lawyer will talk to prosecutor about making a deal and see what is available. He will need a lawyer here if he is out on bond to represent and see either whether plea bargain or trial here is the best option. The lawyer will represent him and see what kind of deal he can get him here after plea is entered .He has options..

We can not afford an attorney. Have we messed up by bonding him out?
