Hi Sir / Madam, I am a resident of Florida (30 year's plus) and I am interested in divorcing my spouse. We have been married for 27 years, 5 children (2 minors - 10 & 17 years old / no-minor 26, 22, & 18), and have debt ($6,00.00 from her part & $48,00.00 on mine). I think this divorce will be civilize and charing child custody should not a problem. I would only like primary (or live with me) custody to eleviate any additional cost on her part, and keep them together (all children (5) presently live with us). I would not elect to have child support from her if the children live with me. Can you please inform me on the cost and some of the issues I may encounter. thank you, XXXXX
State/Country relating to Question: Florida Already Tried: No action has been taken, or notice of divorce requested.
If the divorce will be civilized and there won't be much contention, then you can go to the courthouse and file the complaint for divorce and pay the fee. The courthouse can direct you to the proper forms. Your wife can fill out the Answer and if you both can agree on how to split the assets, debts and custody of the children, then it will be cheap and quick. The problem you may encounter is that during the process of filing a divorce, things and minds change. Your wife may change her mind about custody if she decides that child support will help her live the way she wants to live. So in short, I've seen divorces cost $500 and I've seen them cost $40,000, depending on how much you fight over things. Good luck!
