My 21-year-old son, who is covered under our health insurance, had to have a cyst lanced and treated in a Boise, Idaho doctor's office. He asked if they took our health insurance and they said yes. I talked to them on the phone before he was seen and they also confirmed they took our insurance. I faxed over the front and back of our insurance card for them, as asked, and paid the $25 co-pay over the phone. It is a month later and we just received a bill of $259 from the doctor's office. They said the insurance company said the visit wasn't covered. My husband called the doctor's office to find out what that meant and they said they don't take the insurance, they just bill "all insurance companies." Do I have any legal rights because they lied and now we have to pay the $259 that we don't have? Thank you!
State/Country relating to Question: Idaho
Absolutely you do have rights. You both confirmed the viability of using your insurance and even paid the co pay at the time of the visit. You have excellent proof of their agreement to look to insurance in order to cover the visit because of them only charging the copay. Refuse to pay the balance and answer in writing contesting the bill with the facts set forth above and i believe they will let it go and not pursue it further
