I was offered the option to resign or be terminated from my job after 12 years, on the basis of coworker evaluations. My job performance was not in question according to Human Resourses and my lab director. Coworker evaluatins are anonymous and tend to be character assasinations versus a constructive tool to help improve behavior. What is your opinion of the legality of being fired based on a coworker evaluations. Do you have any resources I could access to do more research on whether this was legal?

First of all, as an "at-will" employee, your employer may modify, demote, or terminate your employment at any time so long as the decision was not discriminatory. An employer may base his employment on group evaluations (some large corporations such as Bloomburg and GM make it a point to terminate the bottom 10% each year of all employees based on low evaluations). However, if you feel that you are somehow being targeted for a discriminatory purpose, I suggest you contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and consider filing a complaint based on retaliation and wrongful termination. Here is a list of agencies in your state that you can contact regarding the validity of your termination.
