just had a judgement against me, and had my checking account frozen. what can I do now, do I have any time to set payments with the law office?
Already Tried: In new york. I started discussing possible payment plan few months ago. Since I got sick and did not follow up, I can show that I was suffering of anxiety(hospital visits and meds) I finally called around sept 1, they said I now had a judgement against me, I did want to set up payments at that time, but they said they did not know what was already in the works for my account. I owe 9,000. and they have put 18,000. against my checking account. I only had 2,500. in the account. I will call the office of course on tuesday , but I don't know what my rights are and if I am even able to set up a payment plan at this point. they can have the amount in my checking account and start a payment plan with me , I can be ok with that. will I ever have my aocount to myself again?
Thank you for your question.
You can try to negotiate with the law office and try to set up payments. Once they've gone through the trouble of freezing your bank account, there is little motive for them to work with you, but it can be done. Particularly if you don't have enough money in the bank account to pay the judgment in full, the law office may be willing to work with you to set up payments where you plan to pay the entire judgment.
