My fianaccee is seeking a divorce in sc he went through legal aide they sent him to a class of which lawyers were there to take them through the necessary paperwork to obtain the divorce without an attorney. he did them as well as sent his wife her papers of which were signed sent back by register mail with proof of the date that she sent them back. he applied for the court date it is coming up in 5 days, they told him that he needs a witness to testify that he has been a resident here for more than a year his wife is in a different state and they have been seperated for 20 years. If the wife doesnt show up in court will they not consider the witness also it is an uncontested divorce

I need the following information before I can answer your question:
Can you please tell me what US state or country is involved in your question? I cannot see it on my screen right now. I may need to research your state-specific law.
And precisely what IS your legal question?
I'll look forward to hearing from you,

its in southcarolina,, with what he has gone through already through leagal aide is it possible that he will get his divorce on next week? hes gone through the classes with the legal expeerts and have done wverything that they have asked him too.
It depends - if he's to get it next week provided that he did everything correctly, then he should get it next week.
It's always possible to have a two week delay because of some small thing, so don't get too nervous!

what small thing could it be that could hold it up it is uncontested the wife willnot be showing up and if she dosent will they still require a witness to testify
I don't see why the wife needs to show up if she signed all the paperwork.
And can't you be a witness that your fiance lives there?
i didnot think that i could because im his fiance and we live together and ive only been here for 4 months im just a little nervous because we are planning to be married by the end of this month and i dont want anything to hold it up (sorry)
Yah, I kind of guessed that!
Well, surely he has a friend who can attend the court session. Your fiance can buy him or her lunch as a thankyou.
