My friend died recently without telling her children about her large credit card debt The card companies sometimes sent her six cards from the same bank and kept raising her interest and charging fees until things were just out of control. She was ill with cancer and didn't tell any family or friends. She had nothing left but her condo. The credit card companies and the banks are threatening her children. Do they owe this money? Sincerely
State/Country relating to Question: Massachusetts Already Tried: We have tried nothing as we weren't prepared to discover this problem. She had complained about finances and her daughter had just begun working with her before she went downhill and died.
Only the person on the account would be liable for the debt. Her children are not liable as long as they are not on the account and do not sign personal guarantees. Threats of this nature are illegal and could be reported to department of consumer affairs and state attorney general office as well as the company's management. Thank you for using justanswer. Thanks so much. This was helpful.
Can you tell me if they can take the money my friend owes out of the sale of her condo before her children get it?
PS You are great.
