When obtaining a personal protection order for herself the judge told my daughter he would not grant the same for her two minor children because minors are not allowed to obtain P.P.O.'s in the state of Michigan until their legal age of eighteen. What legal recourse does the minor's school have if this dangerous individual shows up on school grounds? Is it true minors or parents of minors can not obtain P.P.O.'s on dangerous individuals/adults on behalf of their minor children in the state of Michigan until the minors are of the age of eighteen?
Hello,
She needs to apply for a restraining order ON BEHALF of the children. The judge is right that he cannot grant the children restraining orders until they are 18, but he can grant then in the mother's name on behalf of the children. I am disappointed he did not elaborate on this.

I will have her follow up on your tip and have her press the issue "if need be", with the judge. Thank You so very much! V
Hi,
You're very welcome. The clerk should know this as well and be able to provide her with any specific forms so she can fill out the PPO on behalf of her minor children.
My daughter and grandchildren are very precious to me. Thank you once again so very much! V
My pleasure--my best to you and your family! :)
