I have been diag. w/ peridonal disease and am in need of dental implants. I have had a ct scan and because of the severe bone loss I am told I a conventional denture will not work because I do not have enough ridge to support the denture. I have delta dental insurance, w/ a 1,000 dollar max. My health insurance is Athem healthkeepers, they tell me that it is cosmetic and will not cover any of the 40,000 price tag. I do not have that kind of money to put into dental implants. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get athem healthkeepers pay some on the expense.

Unfortunately, based on what I have read, helath insurance companies do not cover dental implants for two reasons: 1. Dental work comes under dental insurance, not health insurance. It would be sort of like asking you car insurance company to pay for damage to your home. 2. Unless you lost your tooth because of a accident or truama, the dental implants are considered cosmetic and thus exclude by the written policy for coverage. You can read your policy to see if it says anything different. If it does, you may want to follow up with the dental insurance or health insurance company.
