My wife has filed for divorce, has an attorney and has given me 1 week to sign an 'acknownlege of service' and wants to work the process through mediation. Do I need to have an attorney before sighing the ' acknowledgement of service' and notifying her attorney, I will accept mediation?

I have also tried talking to my wife about marriage counseling... Which she is willing to try and has also contact her attorney indicating so... Do I need an attorney before signing the 'acknlodgement of service' and contacting her attorney and accepting mediation?

No - you do not need an attorney to sign an "acknowledgement of service", which is just an admission that you have received the paperwork.
Your signing it saves them the time and expense of having the papers served by a "process server". If you do not sign, you can be held liable for that expense.
