A handy man has done repairs to a property I own. The city has red taged the job/stop work -- no permits most work done must be tron out and rebuilt with proper "approved Materials and permits and be a liscened GC.The Handyman refuses to return any of my money and says he is keeping materials purchased because the job got shut down due to substandard building practices and will not give me any kind of accounting. I have a written contract from this person. What are my options to recover funds and insure this person is not allowed to do this again
State/Country relating to Question: Florida Already Tried: Repeated calls to this Handyman to secure material he said he has purchased and give me a accurate accounting of labor, materials, which he has refused repeatly. I have hired a licensed GC to finish the project and pull permits and pay to haul off the old building materials and trash which was paid for in the written agreement with the handyman person. What are my options and how do I go about getting legal counsel to help me persue this criminal.
Your recourse is to file suit against the contractor in Small Claims court as well as report him to the appropriate division of the licensing/permit issuing authority within your county.
