My divorce decree says my ex-wife is to maintain medical insurance on our two children and i am to pay her the difference of here health insurance between the single rate and the single with two dependants rate. she has since gotten remarried and the insurance comes from her new husbands company. when i ran the numbers i took the employee plus one and subracted from the cost of family. is that the right way to do it?
Thank you for your question.
Yes, that would appear to be the right way to do it, because you would want to subtract what the new spouse pays for both himself and your ex. However, if your spouse disagrees with this calculation, you may want to get a court order on the matter.
