I was terminated over a statement from a client. I was never asked about the statement and there is another person involved that has been couching several client for a while, because she wanted my job. I have the statement in my possession I am wondering if I can file a slander suit or wrongful discharge suit against the client or company.
State/Country relating to Question: Texas Already Tried: nothing
Thank you for your question.
You can file a defamation suit if the statements are factual in nature and they are untrue.
Regarding wrongful discharge, typically employment is at will, which means that you can be fired for any reason that is not discriminatory. If you have an employment contract or if you believe you were fired for a discriminatory reason (based on your race, religion, age, sex, national origin), you can bring a wrongful termination suit.
