i have been excluded from may corporate and manufacturers golf outings. One of my male counterparts has been included by the manufacturer on trips that the two of us combined have won for our owner. He now has the chance to further his career by socializing with the top execs, while I sit at home. To top it off, the entire contest and trip was planned at an exclusive club that doesn't even allow women to play golf (not that I play golf--but an invite would have been nice). THe owner that we report to planned this trip and authorized my male counterpart attending the event--and has said nothing to me at all about it. I had to find out from my subordinates that I was not invited. YTD I have out-netted my male counterpart in net profit. I am in a male dominated field--the auto business, and I am only the second female General Manager of a High line dealership in the US....now I now why. I am so upset--that I have lost my ability to think logically and could use some legal advice.
State/Country relating to Question: Ohio Already Tried: aside from the tears....not much comes to mind. IF I want to keep my job...I really can't express how I feel or I will be on the outside looking in. I have been in the auto business for over 35 years--started by washing cars--climbed my way to GM the long and hard way. I didn't get where I am at by complaining. The odds aren't in my favor--and the owner I work for is part of my problem. I need some good solid advice! Lis

thank you for the post, what do you seek to accomplish?

THere is much more to this story...my male counterpart was found sleeping with the owners administrative assistant. For my first two years I reported to this man...and he and this woman tried to get me fired. Finally the owner did an investigation after I received an anonymous written copy of an inter-company email outlining the affair and their plan for my demise and now I report to only him. OF course the girl was fired...but still my male counterpart lives on in our company. I need to know if I have any legal course of action...or am I just stuck in the the Good Ol' Boys Club?
It sounds like you have a claim based on gender discrimination. In order to initiate such a claim, you would contact your local EEOC office, in addition to speaking with a civil rights or employment law attorney.
Dear Mr./Ms. Holloman, while I appreciate your response, I need to know If a claim such as this is a death wish?? ..My career will be over in minutes after I speak to any atty. Lexus Corporate has deep pockets and not much is beyond their reach...nor my owners--his pockets are deep...between them both Im not sure who to call..and what laywer isn't in their pocket. I won't be hired by any dealership across the United States if I even file a complaint or seek action. This is pretty serious as I am the sole income earner for my family. Can you please tell me what the downside will be.
The downside would be that you are gambling your family's financial wellbeing on a possibility of judgment in your future. The most prudent course of action would be to look for another job with your reputation in tact.
I don't like your answer...but it's probably on the mark. BotXXXXX XXXXXne---is that I think it is reprehensible that I have to change my job---women don't get considered on a daily basis for General Manager positions in car dealerships ...but hey...you just confirmed my belief in the system..... The only words I have to describe it--are not politically correct to put in print. You got your $38.00 or less based on sales volume on this website...remember I am in the volume biz---but I thank you..even if it took 5 minutes out of your life.
I wish I had a better answer for you.
