I was in the hospital for a manic episode of Bipolar Disorder. In the hospital, I called my girlfriend and evidently threatened her. On the day of my release , she took out an ex parte order of domestic violence. I have since moved home and no live at my old address. The day of the hearing I was in a partial hospitalization and was not there. I have just gotten notice that the hearing has been rescheduled in another week. Do I need to go, or can this be settled another way. I am doing much better now, and my manic episode is almost back to normal. I really don't want to stir up old wounds.
State/Country relating to Question: North Carolina Already Tried: I haven't done anything, I still have another week of my partial hospitalization and I just got the notice in the mail that it would be in another week.
Yes you need to appear so that you can contest the and show that you are not a threat and the order should not be issued. You can contact the attorney prosecuting the order to ask if you can reach a settlement or hire an attorney to handle it for you.
