Some other states have grounds on which you can bring suit against the other party for, in essence, ruining the harmony of your marraige in relationship. Texas does not have such an option.

In Texas, the statutory grounds for divorce are:

1. Adultery
2. Cruel treatment
3. Abandonment
4. Long-term incarceration
5. Confinement to a mental hospital for at least 3 years
6. Living apart for at least 3 years
7. Insupportability

Insupportability is defined as discord or conflict of personalities that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation. Other states typically call this "irreconcilable differences"
